Call for Proposals "XR Gallery"

MetaMorphosis: From Extended Reality to Extended Creativity

Extended Reality (XR) is an umbrella term for augmented (AR), mixed (MR), and virtual reality (VR) experiences. This year, we are excited to invite submissions that explore how XR technologies can inspire new forms of imagination, expression, and interaction. The theme highlights the transformative power of XR, encouraging researchers and artists to break boundaries and redefine creativity in both virtual and real worlds through immersive, multisensory experiences. The call is open to anyone interested in creating artistic content: artists, researchers, designers, etc.

Topics and Scope

As part of ICXR 2025, we are delighted to invite you to the first edition of the “XR Gallery” fostering bridges between people from the XR and Art communities through this art exhibition, titled “MetaMorphosis: From Extended Reality to Extended Creativity”. We aim to provoke thought and discussion between artists and researchers around the question of “How XR Inspires Our Creativity”. By bridging the gap between the XR research community and the art world, we hope to inspire innovative perspectives and foster a deeper understanding of the complex relationship between XR technology and creativity.

The main requirements for the submissions are as follows:

• Primarily focus on interactive XR art installations, XR engaging technologies, storytelling, creative expression, theater, while also welcoming non-XR artistic works (any other digital media that explores how we understand reality and creativity)
• Properly defined space and equipment required
• At least one presenter presents at the conference
• The proposed artistic work may be new or already existing

Accepted submissions will be exhibited in the dedicated XR Gallery space throughout the ICXR conference. The corresponding abstract papers will be published in the ICXR 2025 Proceedings as part of the Springer LNCS series (EI indexed).

Submission Guidelines:

In order to apply, submit the following information directly to the easychair system: https://easychair.org/conferences?conf=icxr2025. The submission should include:

• Anonymized abstract paper (6 pages including references and appendix)
• Implementation details (how it will be executed, e.g., HMD or installation project, etc)
• Figures in the paper
• Anonymised video
• Information on equipment and technology used (ICXR only supports the provision of basic facilities such as table, power, network, display space, etc.)

Any supplementary material which shows your previous work is also welcomed but not required (Anonymizing the material is not necessary here).

The paper length is 6 pages in the LNCS one-column page format (including references and appendix).

Selection Process

Each submission will be examined by a panel of external assessor from the digital arts fields and XR research communities, on the basis of the following criteria:

• Originality
• How well it fits in the scope of the XR Gallery
• Representative video and image
• The equipment and technical information required for its realization: (including light, sound, network needs)

Accepted Submissions

The installation will be showcased at the dedicated space for the XR Gallery during the entire duration of the conference.

Abstracts paper and supplementary material due: August 10, 2025

The abstract paper should contain the main content of the work, its methodology and innovations. The abstract paper and supplementary material are to be submitted via the online submission system: https://easychair.org/conferences?conf=icxr2025.

Authors who are unfamiliar with the formalism expected by our community wil be able to draw inspiration from the essays edited inthe Siggraph 2024 Art Paper proceeding https://dl.acm.org/doi/proceedings/10.1145/3680530.

Camera-ready version due: October 10, 2025

All these papers will be published in the Proceedings of ICXR 2025 with Springer LNCS series (EI indexed).
